What You'll Need
- Embroidery machine
- Faux leather or foam fabric (tan/brown)
- Stabilizer
- Embroidery thread (pink/magenta and matching colors)
- Small scissors or embroidery snips
- Your embroidery design file (initial letter + heart shape)
Step 1: Hoop and Stitch the Initial
Hoop your faux leather fabric with stabilizer. Load the design file and stitch the first color stop — your personalized initial letter (e.g., "N") in the center of the heart outline. The machine will stitch the heart border and the letter in your chosen thread color.
Tip: Use a sharp needle suitable for faux leather or foam fabric to get clean, crisp stitches.
Step 2: Add the Slider Channel
After the initial is stitched, the machine pauses for you to attach a small pre-made slider piece to the back of the fabric. This slider allows the finished patch to glide along a drawstring or cord.
- Place the slider component (two horizontal bars) onto the back of the fabric at the marked position.
- Resume stitching — the machine will tack down the slider with a securing stitch pass.
- The slider is now firmly attached to the back of the patch.
Result: Flip your piece over and you'll see the clean slider bars on the back, ready to thread onto a cord.
Step 3: Cut Out and Final Stitch
Carefully cut around the heart shape close to the border stitching using small sharp scissors. Then re-hoop the cut-out patch and run the final finishing stitch pass, which adds the satin border edge and completes the patch.
Your finished patch will have:
- Front: A beautiful heart shape with personalized initial and decorative border
- Back: A functional slider channel that can slide up and down on any cord or drawstring
